Bowling by Alex

Over the Christmas period I went bowling two times. The first time was for the birthday of one of Manda's friends just before Christmas, and I won both of the games we played. The second time was for my birthday just after New Year and I won both of the games we played. I must be getting good! Although I think my sister was having a bad day on my birthday as she's usually as good as or better than I am.

I don't think my New Year's resolution is working out too well, I may have to make it more drastic like 'eat less' or something equally as crazy!
I'm sure most of you have at some point heard of 'Henry the Hoover'. Well for Christmas I received a very cool present from my niece April. It's a mini Henry Hoover to suck up all the dust on my keyboard and desk. A very thoughtful present and perfect for me and my funny cleaning habits!

You can see Henry himself beautifully modelled below by Ed and his sturdy hands...
... I watched some great films, the best being Righteous Kill starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Shame it also included Curtis 50 Cent Jackson and Donnie Wahlberg, but never the less, I really enjoyed it (couldn't take 50 Cent seriously though, talk about type casting, he plays a gun carrying drug dealer). I also watched Taken, which is funny (not meant to be) and really entertaining, it's like a James Bond movie on steroids. It features Liam Neeson who seems to have had some cosmetic surgery, which leads me nicely to The Wrestler played by Mickey Rourke who has had so much surgery, his top lip doesn't work properly so when he takes a drink he dribbles. I guess it must feel like he's been to the dentist everyday. Anyways, an entertaining watch, well filmed, the director has captured the mood perfectly. I recommend all three films, the latter two won't need you to engage your brain to enjoy, the first needs you to concentrate.

Did you see Shooting Stars? really makes me laugh, it's still brilliant.
But before we wipe 2008 from memory can I just say that Becky & Rob's wedding was wonderful, it was a truly happy occasion and everyone had a great time. Thanks to Hotel Du Vin for excellent organisation and great service and special thanks to Katy at In Bloom Flowers. The kids are now skiing in Canada - hey ho.

It all went a bit downhill for me afterwards however as a couple of days later I was hit by the flu bug which lasted over the New Year. It was nasty. I would like to thank the friends whose sympathy came in the form of 'Oh well, everyone has got it'. That made me feel soooo much better! Hey ho.

Unfortunately I missed out on a great New Year's Eve party, hey ho.

Hey no - it's off to work we go.

Have a great 2009
going to be a fist fight for the first quarter of 2009. Us Cherries have our sleeves rolled up and ready to do battle! It's been a nervous time for a number of businesses this holiday period and fingers crossed most will come through it unscathed!

Very pleasant Christmas break up in Glasgow, we met my niece Holly and she's an absolute cracker. It's hard to believe Zach was that tiny and now he's just an eating and playing machine, but great value. Unfortunately, the wife had to work most of the Christmas break and so it left yours truly looking after the boy wonder, it's certainly hard work.
What a Christmas break.

I managed to cram in 2 Christmas dinners and 6 bowls of sherry trifle over Christmas and Boxing day. I discussed the diversity of the trifle with family. Next year I'm going to make a savoury version the "Christmas Dinner Trifle". The base would be roasted parsnips and sprouts in a gravy jelly, then a layer of turkey and creamed mash potato to top it off. More gravy could be substituted for cream.

New Years Eve was great. Jen and I attended a murder mystery in the depths of Devon. I was not the murderer but did win an Oscar for my performance as the chef and restaurant proprietor Frank Le Orfull.

The trifle has settled and I'm ready for 2009. Power to the people!
What a good ol' break that was. It feels like I've been off for a year! The festive break was great, I had a really enjoyable time chilling, eating, drinking, seeing family and that jazz.

Time to get our heads down and take on this new year. Bring it on!

New Year's Resolution by Alex

My News Year's resolution is to eat more slowly. Hopefully that'll work and is a bit more achievable than eating less or whatever. The problem is that so far I've forgotten for most of my meals, so I guess I've already broken it a lot.

Still, it's the attempt that counts!

Christmas and New Year were pretty good. To be honest, this year I haven't been very into the whole Christmas, New Year and birthday business. I don't think it's that I'm getting older and more mature (i.e. less excited about the magic of Christmas), as I'm mainly excited about Christmas for seeing family and having a nice laugh, and New Year just for whatever one's normally happy about New Year for! Oh well, still had a nice relaxing break and I did get to see quite a bit of family and I did have fun, so it's all good. Back to work now though, boo!
Here we go kids, another year is upon us i for one am ready for it and all it brings. I think there could be some twists and turns along the way but hopefully i'll be able to look back at it favourably!

I had a rather low key Christmas back at the family home for probably the final Christmas ever, 'twas good to see the family together for an extended period as it rarely happens these days. I can't do justice to how cold it was up there, when you're by the coast the same temperature as inland just feels a little more death like.

Anyway, i was glad to get back to brum to ready for new year and partying with friends, needless to say fun was had by all.
The time has come for us to put down the champagne, stop eating so much food and get back to work! Thank goodness...don't think I could of taken any more turkey.

I spent the majority of my Christmas at home with the family and out with friends. Managed to cram in some exciting stuff as well as the usual Christmas outtings though. Even managed to go ice skating but a nasty man pushed me over (I think on purpose) and needless to say my poor bottom is still recovering!

Glad it's the new year now...fresh start and all that. Bring it on!
Very relaxing break, to the point where we did bog all really.

I did a few chores around the house including painting the bathroom floor, changing some light fittings, putting a new rail in Isobel's wardrobe due the amount of clothes she got over Christmas, scrubbing the quarry tile floor on me hands and knees and putting up a few pictures around the place. But most of the holiday was spent with us three chubbing round the living room and watching lots of 'In the Night Garden' (Fact: All parents with kids under 4 have an in depth knowledge of Iggle Piggle, The Tumbly Boos, Upsie Daisy, Macka Packa and the Ninky Nonk, whilst other people just assume you are taking too many drugs maaan)

Christmas day was tiring as she was a bit grumpy for some reason, but we all got loads of great gifts (including a new set of chisels for me!!) . So be prepared for some pretty unusual looking wood based projects during 2009.

Only other thing of note is that I've bought a new TV. It's 50" of pure 1080p goodness. Also I watched some great films over the break including 'The Wrestler' and 'Defiance', well worth a punt.

....up time over the hols has been about 1000. It's been bliss but I gotta tell you, it felt like the middle of the night at 0650 this morning. Fancy it snowing too, it's had a few weeks to do that then it does it on the day the nation goes back to work! Marvellous.
I thought I should blog as I am the only person at work today. I'm all on my own, but I like it, nice and peaceful. I'm getting everything ready for next week when everyone returns for the year ahead.

As you may be aware, I'm not a common blogger, I'm not really keen, but hopefully in 2009 I will be able to bring you a few nice things to read in my blog. I'll try to keep it happy as I'm sure that there will be loads of gloomy news in 2009.
Oh dear, I was ill on Monday and Tuesday and then I forgot to blog on Wednesday when I was in and I'm off work (holiday) as of yesterday so I thought I'd better do a blog today.

Frst of all, I'm somewhat late to this but the meal at Opus was very nice. I've never tried oyster before and so I tried one of those. Not to my personal taste but at least I now know. Ian suggested having oysters with some Tabasco sauce, and I may have overdone the Tabasco sauce actually, although after the fiery heat there was just a load of salt in my mouth, so who knows?! I also had a mussel and they're like a cross between oysters and scallops, although in my unrefined pallate there's not much between the three. Anyway, my main meal was an absolutely gorgeous fillet steak. Amazing stuff. And I had a mince pie for dessert. I was very full so I didn't want a big dssert, the minc pie was just enough.

On Monday and Tuesday I had what seemed very much like the recent Norovirus. It lasted for two days, and I felt very sick with some major stomach pains and by the end of day one and the beginning of day two I had general body muscle ache and a nice splitting headache to boot. I guess I was lucky though as I wasn't actually sick. I came very close at times, and even kept a bucket-like object nearby just in case I didn't make it.

And that's about it. The rest of my week has been pretty average. I hope all my Christmas shopping is done (or accounted for in organises trips) now, so I don't have to worry about last-minute madness. I guess I'll see you all on the 5th!
illness. Four times in hospital, if it wasn't the knee then the dreaded 'Quincy' aka severe tonsillitis. Glad to say feeling 99.9% better, being visiting the gym couple of times a week and so trying to keep a clean bill of health for 2009. Adopted a new name round the office of 'Sick Note Priestnall', this has got to go!

Strange year all said and done, my Uncle Trevor unfortunately died early this month which has really taken a shine off this year. However, Sister In-law had baby Holly this week, so glad the year has finished on a good positive note.

So Christmas is here and we're off up the road to Glasgow on Tuesday until the Sunday, looking forward to being spoilt rotten by the mother in law. With the birth of my little niece it'll be a quiet affair, but the main event has to be the 'Old Firm Derby' Rangers vs Celtic on the 27th.

A very Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year to everyone, well maybe not everyone x
Well blimey what a year. It's all been fantastic if I'm honest,

We moved house and took over a huge allotment patch.
We visited the Yorke Arms twice and had the most divine food in the world (I'll fight anyone to the death who says any different, well perhaps not to the death but maybe till one of us had an injured thumb or stubbed toe or summat).
I moved over to the dark side and bought an iPhone and haven't looked back since
I upgraded my Media Centre at home to Windows Vista even though I scorned it as a bloated piece of crap, and it works and everything
I crossed another thing off my 'Things to do before i croak' list by seeing the world greatest party band 'The B-52's' live.
I got into wine in a more serious way by reading up on it a bit and not just slamming it down me neck saying "ooh thats a nice splash of plonk that", although I still have some way to go before I have the faintest clue what I'm on about.
Came round to the way of thinking that Heath Ledger was a decent actor as his portrayal of 'The Joker' in Batman was outstanding (everything else he has been in is utter tosh though).
Bought my first lawn mower (a self propelled petrol one as well!)
Ate the hottest chilli in the universe and survived (it was a tad warm if I'm honest)
Discovered the Maize Maze over Solihull and got lost in it
Realised that I will never go to another Glastonbury festival again after watching it on the tele and seeing the misery on peoples faces
Discovered that the Wheatsheaf over the road is in fact a great pub since its all been done out, also discovered that i am crap at giant chess.
Saw some great art including huge piles of rice (was great even though it doesn't sound it) , a three dimensional tropical island that I could walk round. and being buried in a coffin in the vaults up the road.
Saw Nicole Blackman in the last ever Courtesan Tales in the UK
Visited Glasgow and was surprised what a lovely city it is with wonderful architecture and plenty of 'local colourful characters' (read homicidal neds with flick knives and the intellect of 5 amp fuse)
Discovered 'Dave's burning nuts' which are clearly the greatest peanuts in the entire galaxy
Had a suit hand made for me and it's one of my favourite things in the world.
    And thats about it really

Oh yeah I forgot, dunno if I've mentioned it but I became a dad to the most attractive cutest baby in the world (don't bother looking it up on the internet, its a fact, all other parents are just deluding themselves). Anyway as a Christmas treat, here are some piccies so that you can judge for yourself.
It's officially the last working day of 2008 for everyone at Cherry Towers. A few of us are going for drinks after work, to celebrate the yule-tide season which is almost upon us.

I'm just going for the booze.

See you in 2009!

So it's my last blog of 2008. Firstly, sorry to all of you who have kept up to date on what's been going on with my band, I try to avoid spamming my blogs with band stuff, but it's about all I really have to talk about most of the time, so thanks for your patience!

I'm still pretty excited about Christmas and am looking forward to meeting up with some friends for drinks and fun this weekend. We'll be getting a tree and decorating it this weekend, along with wrapping presents to put under the tree.

i've still not planned what to do for New Year celebrations, but am dead set on not having a party at mine this year - it's someone else's turn to deal with that one I reckon. I'm sure we'll find something fun though.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all x x
...i do like to be beside the seaside, oh i do like to be beside the sea. Well it's alright...actually thinking about it, the sea where i'm from ain't all that, they say it's been cleaned up but it still looks a mirky grey. And at this time of year it's bloomin cold with a bitter wind! So actually on reflection, it's not all that!

Nevertheless it's the place i still call home and it is where i shall reside over the xmas period. Looking forward to spending proper time with the family as opposed to the usual flying visit! It may also be my last xmas in that part of the world, all log fires and snowy fields next year?

I'm looking forward to 1998 and to growing up a bit more.
This Christmas I'm looking forward to sprouts, gravy, stuffing made with sausage meat, Stilton, port, prawn cocktail, cold turkey sarnies with loads of proper butter, Totopoly, Monopoly and other board games, Wii and having a good time with family and friends.
Oh yes, this is the last day for us although, we are actually at work next Monday and Tuesday but the office will be technically closed as we install new machines and servers. We'll be open again on January 5th.

What year it's been, Auntie Barbara has left this world and who'd have said this time last year that in a years time the country would be staring into the abyss of a financial meltdown. It's quite unbelievable but I do think, we have some terrible times ahead and possibly some painful experiences. I hope the banks have the good sense to help small businesses during the latter part of the first quarter of next year. I predict March will be the key month for many small businesses as cash flow becomes tight for all. For our part, we're taking no prisioners next year. Efficiency is the key word, we will be better, sharper and quicker than the rest, we'll do more for less and we'll offer even better support than we already do, off with the gloves, attack, attack, attack.

This Christmas I mainly be, staying in, watching films, eating very well, drinking fine wine and having great times with my family. I hope you have a good break, enjoy it because as I've said, January will be literally a new chapter for everyone me thinks.

Ooh they're all eager to get your business in the first instance, tantalising you with £40 off offers and next day delivery and all that. But once your signed up, thats it your at the back of the queue. I ordered some wine at noon on the 15th and logged in today (18th) to see where it was.

The order status was 'submitted' which meant that they had recieved it and that was as far as it had got, so I got on the phone a bit sharpish to find out what was going on. Turns out they are too busy getting other orders out before christmas ('we've had lots of new orders due to our promotion') to be arsed with getting my stuff together and sticking it on a van. So now the bloke says, "i'll put it through again and cancel that one and you should get it before christmas" as I have had to change the delivery address to home to make sure that I get it and it doesnt turn up at the office when there's no bugger here.

You can bet Bransons celler is well stocked though can't you, I should imagine his delivery was winged to him a bit urgent after he called em up, eh! "ooh yes Mr Branson we'll be over in a bit, get the kettle on"

Weirdo funny bearded horse toothed git.

Crazy Bus Folk by Richard

There are a few regular crazies on the bus. One guy gets on and looks perfectly normal for the majority of his travels. All of a sudden, something will set him off and he'll have an argument with himself. I have also seen him carrying big bags of old junk from time to time. Once I witnessed him rummage about in one of the bags, produce an old, chipped mug and proceed to sup something from it. Rather disturbing.

My favourite of the lot is Mr. Sandyback. The bus I catch goes to Tamworth, (I live there, you see), and my fellow Tamworthians are sometimes known as Sandybacks. Mr. Sandyback delights in hailing the bus, (usually from the Aston Uni. stop), and then proceeding to yell "Aaaah! You're all a bunch of Sandybacks! AAAAAAAHHHHHHH! SANDYBAAAAAAACKS!" at everyone on the bus. It's highly amusing.

.... 4 months for my big son to nearly be at my standard of tennis, it's taken me 8 years. I was very impressed with our game last night, in the third set I played to win, I did win, but it won't be long before he whips my ass. Nice one son, a chip off the old block (he's tall and handsome too).

It's one of those beautiful days today, freezing cold but gloriously sunny, I recommend everyone goes out for a little walk, it'll cheer you up, no sign of the credit crunch in the sky above.

Homebase Tree by Matt

We were unable to get our Christmas tree from the usual place this year. I had to make a journey to Selly Oak last night. First a visit to B&Q. They had about 3 trees, all rubbish, so I popped to Homebase next door who had a better selection.

I'm quite finicky about my tree. It has to be symmetrical and have en even distribution of branches from top to bottom. Also the point has to be perfectly straight. After a few minutes I found the perfect tree hiding in the corner. It now has pride of place in the corner of our Lounge.

I like TV sometimes. Christmas on the BBC is usually scattered with such goodness. This year i'm looking forward to a less morbid Royale Family, Rab C Nesbitt and Gavin & Stacey!

Furthering the TV theme, for some years now there's been live colour CCTV on the buses of Birmingham, admittedly not every bus, but a fair few! The other day there was a girl on the bus that was getting rather excited by the fact that she could see herself on the screen at regular intervals! Even though she knew it was coming she still yelped a little at the predictable appearance of herself and her friend on the screen!

The friend was less impressed.
... Bill and Sian on Breakfast (BBC) recently so I thought I would today. Sian is heavily pregnant now and Bill is as lovely as ever, but why oh why do they laugh at everything, I mean everything. I wonder if they take drugs, I'm serious... these people are up at 3am, no-one is that happy, it's impossible. Also, that lovely Scottish weather girl must take the same drugs because she's too happy too. I reckon they put huge doses of prozac in their tea. Anyway, I don't think being that happy is natural, it's like they are from another planet..... talking of which, I watched The Day The Earth Stood Still last night and loved it. Keanu Reeves is great in it and the photography is brilliant, worth a watch if you want a relaxing evening without having to think too much.

never ever have we (me and the wife) voted on a reality TV show before! But we did this weekend and just thought she was fantastic and far out shone the rest of the singers. It's truly a winning format allowing people a window to completely embarrass themselves on national TV or show their skills to get that record deal - Nice one Simon Cowell!

Cooked a great Sunday roast yesterday with the works, homemade Yorkshire puddings and beautiful beef rump done to perfection with a roast chicken for the none red meat eaters. Very enjoyable weekend of European Rugby and good football results too.
Dear Diary,

Our meal at Opus on Friday was fantastic. The food was just awesome and the wine was simply amazing.

I went for leek and smoked haddock fishcake with free range poached egg and chive beurre blanc to start. Main was lamb on Brinjal potatoes with winter vegetables. I had chocolate fondant with chestnut ice cream for pud. Mmm...

Also, I stuck to my plan and didn't end up in a drunken mess at the end of the night. That fact is pretty amazing considering how much we had to drink. Tequila in The Vaults at the end of the night was a bad idea.

Well as you all know it was our Christmas party on Friday. And what a party it was!

We started with champagne in the office whilst opening our Secret Santa gifts. Of which I received some edible thongs...thanks Santa! We then went to Opus for some great food and fabulous wine. Then back to the office for more bubbly.

Really enjoyed my first Christmas with the rest of the cherries. Lots of drinks really helps you to get to know people.

As for the rest of my weekend, after finally recovering from my hangover on Friday, I got a bit of a tummy bug. So I've been tucked up in bed all weekend getting pampered. Many thanks.

The Cherry Christmas party was a great laugh. The food and wine at opus was fantastic, the company throughout was highly entertaining and I think we all generally had good knees up.
